Senior Property Accountant

Calgary Full Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly financial statements for a portfolio of properties, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop, monitor, and analyze budgets, including variance reporting, to support operational and financial goals.
  • Tenant Accounting: Oversee tenant billing processes, including rent calculations, lease audits, and recoveries, while maintaining clear records.
  • Reconciliations: Perform regular reconciliations for bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and intercompany transactions.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to accounting standards, legal requirements, and company policies.
  • Support Operations: Collaborate with property managers by providing financial insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Audit Assistance: Prepare working papers and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor junior accounting staff and foster a collaborative, high-performance work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of property accounting or financial reporting experience, preferably in the real estate or property management sector.
  • Proficiency in property management software, with experience in Yardi being a significant asset.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, and other advanced functions).
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
